Memory Blankets

How To Help

The Sewing Group is working on making Memory Blankets for a Memory Unit and is looking for items to use to decorate the blankets. Needed items are fabrics in different textures, buttons, buckles, bells, zippers, snaps, shoelaces, leftover wool, strings, soft toys, squishy and squeaky items, key rings, beads, and Stiff stabilizer fusible on both sides – 1 piece 24 X 19 inches or 56 X 47 CM and more. Items can be dropped in a box in the narthex.

Reflection

I was introduced to fidget blankets when my dad was in the hospital. He had memory issues and was not understanding what was happening with his body. He did not understand why he needed to be in the hospital or when he could go home. The local church in his hometown makes the fidget blankets and donates them to the hospital for patients like my dad. I watched my dad “play” with the blanket when he would get agitated. So I asked the nurse about the blanket and found out the details. It means so much to me that our church would consider making and donating these blankets locally. I feel that I need to do this in memory of my dad. And I would love to share the making of these blankets with my church family. - Carol Sheets
