The Laurel Winter Shelter, sponsored by Taking Care of Our Neighbors, will be held this year! Emmanuel is scheduled to volunteer February 2 -8, 2025.
Emmanuel has supported Laurel Winter Shelter for many years. The program has changed significantly. Here are some updates about the new program.

There are two jobs for Emmanuel to volunteer for at the shelter this year.

Check-in clients
7:00 PM-10:00 PM
Two volunteers are needed. Clients are screened by LARS. All information about the clients and the procedures to be followed are provided. A board member from Taking Care of Our Neighbors will visit the shelter each night to assist as needed.
Overnight volunteers
10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
Overnight duties include waking up any client who needs to leave early for a job, assisting with any issue that may arise during the night and ensuring that clients are ready to leave in the morning. In addition, a board member from Taking Care of Our Neighbors is on call for any emergencies. We are requesting three volunteers. With three volunteers, shifts can easily be established so that volunteers can sleep in a designated room with a provided cot.

There must be at least one male volunteer for the overnight shift. Couples can volunteer together. All volunteers must be over 18 and will be screened through a background check. This procedure takes about 10 minutes and is free.

There will be a training meeting for both of these positions on January 26 from 11:30-12:00.
