Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month
We are honored to join The United Methodist Church’s fifteen Asian Pacific American ethnic groups in celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month this May.
These groups include Cambodians, Chinese, Filipinos, Formosans, Hmong, Japanese, Koreans, Laotians, Middle Easterners, Pakistanis, South Asians, Vietnamese, Tongans, Samoans, and Fijians.
During AANHPI Heritage Month, we remember and honor the extraordinary contribution of the AANHPI community to the history of our country. Let us use this chance to learn more about the heritage of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders and to forge a stronger nation under the guidance of the God who urges us to embrace diversity and fight for inclusiveness. Check out the resources on Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month provided by the General Commission on Race and Religion (GCORR) of the United Methodist Church.

Serving as an ally is a great way to show support for the AANHPI people in our community. As allies for the AANHPI community, we can do our part by training for the possibility of hate crimes and by speaking out against harassment and discrimination when we see it. Here are a few strategies to help you do that:
- Sign up for free bystander intervention training during the month of May.
- Pledge to stand up to all forms of hate, racism, bigotry, and bullying.
- Read first-hand Asian-American’s stories of their experiences with racism and violence.
- Let your friends and neighbors know how Emmanuel UMC is working on building a community based on the principle of radical inclusion.
