Worship at Emmanuel -- Ministries

Acolytes
Acolytes light and put out the altar candles at the beginning and end of our worship services. At Emmanuel children and youth who are in 3rd grade and older are welcome to become acolytes. Contact Karen Irons via e-mail or through the church office.
Altar Team
The Altar Team serves the congregation in its worship by preparing the altar and sanctuary for all services. Team members take care of changing the altar cloths, banners and cross backdrop, arranging for altar flowers, and preparing the communion table. The team also is responsible for the care for the altar and communion brass, linens and banners. Contact Doris Ritter at 301-725-2017 or through the church office.
Greeters
Greeters are on the front lines of the ministry of hospitality at Emmanuel. Greeters seek to make all feel welcome at Emmanuel and to provide a personal connection for those visiting Emmanuel. Our greeters are our ambassadors, and their most important function is to offer open hearts and warm smiles to all who enter our doors. Greeters are provided with training materials so they will be effective greeters. Contact Jeanne Lineberry via e-mail or through the church office.
Liturgists
Liturgists are leaders of our worship services. They read the Bible lessons, opening prayers, and serve the chalice (cup) during communion. Serving as a liturgist can lead to a deeper understanding of the liturgy (what we do in worship) and worship traditions of Emmanuel. Training is available. Contact Karen Irons either via e-mail or through the church office.
Ushers
Ushers are key to making Emmanuel a friendly and reverent place to worship God. They prepare the church for services, greet and help worshippers find seats, collect the offering and clean up the sanctuary after services. If you are interested in serving on the front lines of the ministry of hospitality, contact Butch Herron at 301-953-1794 and/or Kris Thompson at 301-604-6406.
God Dancers
The God Dancers are our liturgical dance troupe for younger children who want to praise God through dance. The troupe practices once a week during the school year and dances in our worship services at least 4 times a year. For more information and the practice schedule, contact the director of the God Dancers, Amy McNeil.
Letting Laity Loose Team
Every time there is a 5th Sunday in a month (four times a year), a creative team of Emmanuel's laity (anyone who is not ordained) plan and lead worship. * Do you wish you could pick the hymns? Do you wish some Sunday worship focused on a specific topic? Do you want to tell the story of how God is working in your life? Are you bursting with ideas that would make worship exciting, spirited, provocative? Join the Letting Laity Loose Team and help create and lead exciting, spirited and provocative worship services. For more information contact the church office.
